New, Online Version Uses the Most Successful, Tested Approaches
Decades of classroom experience demonstrates that the most profound and motivating way to learn about propaganda techniques is to spot them
being used in the media, information, and interactions from your own daily life. When we updated the original board game to an online social
media experience, we designed the activity around students being assigned homework to find and create their own examples to submit to the site’s
database. Easy-to-use teacher tools then allow you to review these student submissions and select the best to use in weekly, in-class group play.
During group play, examples are presented through a single, online connection and projected
on a screen for the class. Play groups of students
then vote on which technique they predict others in the group will pick as the one best describing a particular example. After they reveal their
votes, students discuss and debate, and then vote again with points awarded for players in the final majority and also those who successfully
swayed others to join their minority opinion.
Your role as a teacher and moderator has been made incredibly simple with powerful, easy-to-use tools to conduct all aspects of the program. The
website includes clear, easy-to-follow lesson plans, instructional videos and pre-loaded, 15-minute presentations with examples to introduce your
students to each week’s assignment of 8-10 new techniques. Printable technique definition sheets to pass out and all the scorekeeping and player
voting sheets are included. The program has extensive self-tutoring, tracking, and incentives built in to inspire students to go above and beyond
assigned time-on-task. Once they get hooked on finding and inventing examples, it becomes infectious as they awaken to the pervasive
use of these techniques in all areas of life. Many former students report that the PROPAGANDA GAME concepts were the most relevant and practical material
they ever learned and still use in adult life.
